Ed's Paintings

Zoom Portraits from the Plague Years

During the pandemic, Ed began teaching guitar lessons over Zoom. Unbeknownst to them, Ed would capture screenshots of his students during their lessons, making for excellent candid portrait poses. The portraits he painted are a kind of monument. They’re from his perspective as a teacher, and most of them, made in a kind of loose realism, feature a student, usually quite young, bent over a guitar. Because they were unaware they were being photographed, they appear in abstracted poses, concentrating on a sticky chord or looking at their sheet music. This page contains Zoom portraits as well as an array of paintings of Ed's friends, family, and fellow musicians.
